About Us
Lair Athletics was built by a GK, for GKs.
Founder
Dorian is the Founder and Head Goalkeeper Coach of Lair Athletics. He has spent more than 20 years in the position, playing at the collegiate and semi-professional levels before moving into coaching. His experience includes Warner Pacific University, Portland Spartans, FC Mulhouse Portland, St. Petersburg Aztecs, and Snohomish County Steelheads FC. He has coached goalkeepers throughout the Pacific Northwest and currently serves as Director of Goalkeeping for Sound FC. His approach focuses on developing technically sound, confident goalkeepers who understand the game, make decisions, and solve problems for themselves.
Goalkeeper Trainer
Bruce is a Goalkeeper Coach with Lair Athletics and brings NCAA Division I and semi-professional playing experience to the training environment. His coaching emphasizes strong fundamentals, positioning, decision making, and helping goalkeepers understand why they make certain choices in the game. Bruce brings a calm, thoughtful approach to training while still pushing goalkeepers to compete and hold themselves to a high standard.
Goalkeeper Trainer
Justin is a Goalkeeper Coach with Lair Athletics and a collegiate goalkeeper with experience across ECNL, college, and semi-professional environments. He brings energy, competitiveness, and a player-first perspective to training. Justin focuses on helping goalkeepers sharpen their technique, build confidence, and better understand the position while creating an environment where players can work hard and enjoy being in goal.
Lair Athletics exists because goalkeepers deserve their own thing.
Not an afterthought at the end of team training. Not twenty minutes of shots after everyone else finishes. A place actually built around the position.
I started Lair Athletics after spending most of my life in goal. Playing it, coaching it, studying it, and learning how different the position really is.
My soccer journey started in the Pacific Northwest with FC Shoreline and Emerald City FC under Peter Fewing, then continued through Shorewood High School, Edmonds College under Brandon Mitalas, Warner Pacific University under Bernie Fagan, and the semi-professional game with the Portland Spartans and FC Mulhouse Portland both under Victor Garcette, St. Petersburg Aztecs, and ultimately playing, running, owning Snohomish County Steelheads FC.
Eventually, playing turned into coaching.
I've worked with goalkeepers at Warner Pacific University, Hillsboro SC, Salmon Creek SC, Snohomish United, West Seattle Junction, and other programs throughout the region. Today, I also serve as Director of Goalkeeping for Sound FC.
Every stop taught me something different, but one thing kept standing out.
Goalkeeper development needed more.
Goalkeeping is more than making saves.
It is positioning, decision making, footwork, distribution, communication, confidence, leadership, and figuring out what to do when the game, or life gets messy.
That is how we train at Lair Athletics.
We want goalkeepers who can think, adapt, compete, and lead. Sometimes that means repetition. Sometimes competition. Sometimes stopping a drill and asking one simple question:
What did you see?
The goal is not to create robots. It is to develop goalkeepers who understand the game and can solve problems for themselves.
And yeah, we still like flying around and making top bin saves too.
What started as training has grown into something bigger.
Today, Lair Athletics includes private and group training, camps, clinics, events, film analysis, goalkeeper equipment, and a growing community around the position.
Our relationship with West Coast Goalkeeping is part of that story. I started wearing their gloves in 2019 while playing, then continued using their equipment throughout my coaching career. Over time, that relationship naturally grew, and Lair Athletics eventually became a retail partner.
No complicated corporate origin story. We used the gear, trusted it, and wanted our goalkeepers to have easier access to it.
I don't want Lair Athletics to become big just for the sake of being big.
I want Lair Athletics to become the home of all things goalkeeping on the Pacific Northwest.
A place where someone can show up for their first goalkeeper session at 10 years old, keep training, potentially play in college, potentially go pro, and eventually come back as a coach to give back to the game.
We'll keep building better training, better events, better resources, and a stronger goalkeeper community.
Everything starts with the position.
Dedicated to the goalkeeper.
